Although we have now released a "Plus" version of Rentalot that handles online bookings and other advanced features, many people find the original version more than adequate for their needs. It served us well in our rental business for over two years and we continue to maintain it.
The Front End
At the front end, Rentalot provides an availability calendar with prices and availability automatically generated from the prices and bookings in the Rentalot database. Rentalot is fully multi-currency and if multiple currencies are defined, the client is offered a choice of currencies. The columns, date formats, and styles used in the availability table are all configurable, with configuration options in the back end, and css styling that you can add to your site template.The Back End
In the back end, Rentalot is a complete rental management system. You maintain your prices and enter all your booking details. Your bookings automatically modify your availability, but Rentalot does much more than that. It allows you to schedule and track up to four payments per booking, and the financial report is an invaluable aid to keeping track of money due in, money due out, and your gross profit. The schedule report contains exactly the information you need to prepare for guest arrivals, and the lead source report and pie chart show you exactly which of your advertisements are working best.
An optional notification script can run daily to send email reminders about arrivals, departures, and payments due, and to automatically update exchange rates.

Price Calculation
Rentalot calculates prices using "Price Periods". You can setup as many price periods as you want, each with its own unique price. A price period can be any length of time from a single day to an entire year. For example, if you only accept booking for complete weeks starting on a Saturday, you would setup a price period for each week. Your price periods don't have to be of equal length, so if you only offer full week rentals in high season, but accept daily bookings out of season, Rentalot can handle that. If a client books a period of time that crosses multiple price periods, Rentalot adds up the prices of the individual periods to calculate the total price. If a client wants to book part of a price period, he is charged the full price of any price period overlapped by the booking.Rentalot also offers a great deal of flexibility in the way it calculates the payment schedule associated with bookings. The initial payment can be a fixed amount, a percentage of the total, or the whole amount. You can configure up to three further payments at variable dates.
It is convenient to have Rentalot calculate booking prices, but it is not mandatory. All the calculations can be manually overridden, so if you have a different way of calculating prices, or you negotiate a special rate or payment schedule with a client, you can just enter booking prices or payment schedules manually.
Language Support
At the front end, Rentalot is completely language independent. All text appearing on the site is configurable by you, and can be managed by Joom!Fish for a multi-language site. At the back end, Rentalot can be customised to any language by adding a language file. It currently comes with five languages. Translations are welcome and will be added to the product.
