We started out working with Mambo and still maintain Mambo versions of a couple of our extensions (Eyesite and SPGM). We probably won't do any more work on them, but we still see a few downloads so we'll keep them on the site for a while longer. If you have the old MamboSPGM installed on your Mambo site, you should remove it as soon as possible as it has a huge security hole. The easiest fix is to move to our SPGM package. Actually, that is where it all started... Our old Mambo site got hacked, and on investigation we found that the hackers had had code running on our site for weeks or months before they eventually defaced our front page and we noticed. It's scary that for months we didn't know they were there. The hackers certainly stole our database - not that it mattered to us. But they could easily have used our site as a host for illegal activities or planted code to attack our visitors, or worse, our clients. That's when we realised that we needed to be much more proactive at monitoring our site, and that's how we came to write Eyesite. On further analysis, we finally discovered the hole in MamboSPGM and plugged it temporarily with a .htaccess defence. But SPGM is such a nice gallery we didn't want to give it up, so we wrote our SPGM package... Then we moved to Joomla!, and the rest just kind of happened! We still have a good friend using Mambo, but eventually we will drop support for it. |
