MediaShop manages paid or free downloads of software, documents, music, or any other type of file on your Joomla! website. Product descriptions can include plugins such as photo galleries or media players.

Offer a Choice of Prices

After payment, your customer is redirected to a special download page, and receives an email with a link to the same download page. When you setup your prices in MediaShop, you define the length of time these links remain valid, and the number of downloads allowed. You can define up to four different options for each product, enabling you to offer a range of options to suit your customers differing needs.

Prices are stored separately from products, so that many products can be associated with one price. You can easily change the price of many products simply by editing the price record.

Payment Gateway Support

MediaShop currently supports payment through PayPal and Skrill (formerly Moneybookers). If you have accounts with both, you can offer your customers the choice, and the combination of the two works very well. Not everyone likes PayPal, and about 20% of our sales come through Skrill. Both gateways support payment by credit or debit card for customers who don't want to sign up for a PayPal or a Skrill account.

MediaShop allows you to have multiple accounts of each type, so if you want you can have different products attached to different payment accounts. You can even configure products to cycle through multiple accounts to spread payments between different accounts in any proportion you choose.

Did you know that a PayPal account can have up to 7 secondary email addresses? Not all payment solutions support this feature, but MediaShop does. It means you can sell with a PayPal email address that is a good match with your site or business name. All you have to do is setup a new email address, add it to your PayPal account, and configure it in MediaShop. It's so simple, but very effective.

Sometimes payments can have a status of "Pending", for example if a customer pays by eCheque. MediaShop lets you choose whether to allow immediate downloads for pending payments, or not. If you choose not to allow them, MediaShop automatically emails the download link to the customer when the payment clears.

Product Groups

Product groups allow you to sell a number of downloads from a group of products. For example you can sell 5 downloads from a group of 100 products. Or 50 downloads from a group of 10. It's completely flexible, and you can offer up to four different price options per group. Individual products can belong to any number of groups.

Individual products can be free, purchasable, or "not for sale", which means that they are only available by buying a group that they belong to.

If it all sounds too confusing, don't worry, you don't have to use groups. There are several examples on this site that use groups in various ways. It just gives you more options to grow your business.

Free Downloads

MediaShop also supports free downloads. We now use MediaShop for all our free downloads as well as our paid downloads, just to get the benefit of MediaShop’s detailed statistics and charts.

Logging

MediaShop keeps a detailed log of every event for a transaction. Every time a customer visits their download link or downloads a file, MediaShop logs the date, time, filename, file version, and IP address.

MediaShop also performs exhaustive transaction checking to prevent fraud, and logs any errors or discrepancies in the transaction event log.

Transaction Administration

In the back end you can create, extend, revoke, or refund a transaction. Creating transactions in the back end means you can provide free samples, or provide access to files as part of a separate business. Sometimes, to show good-will, you might want to extend the download period for a customer, or give them some extra downloads. That's easy, you just find the transaction using the customer's name, email address, or transaction ID, change the expiry date or number of downloads, and click the Save button. You can also mark a transaction as refunded or revoked, both of which prevent any further downloads via the customer's download link.

Statistics, Reports, and Charts

MediaShop collects hit, sales, and download statistics per product per day for both free and non-free products, as well as detailed records of each sale. The reporting section in the back end allows you to view and analyse this information in several different ways for several different time periods. There are three pie charts, two bar charts, and three reports.

Configuration and Styling

All the buttons used in MediaShop are easily configurable. Customer emails are configurable. The most important text messages shown to customers are configurable. All other text is customisable via the language files. MediaShop has its own css file, which it loads on all its front end pages. All the page elements have css classes, so if you know css you should be able to style everything to your exact requirements..

Language Support

Both front and back end are multi-language ready using the standard Joomla language file system. Several translations are included. New translations are welcome and will be added to the product. The user guide explains how to add or modify translations.

Data Import

MediaShop can import transactions, products and PayPal accounts from Joomla! P2DXT.
